TAVISTOCK Swimming Club?s Presentation Evening following the Club Championships 2004 was held on Friday with club chairman, Debbie Mills, welcoming one of Tavistock?s founder members, vice president John Reed. Hugh MacKenzie who retired as president earlier this year was presented with a gift as a token of thanks for all the support he had given the club over the years. Debbie welcomed Sue Dunstan as Tavistock?s new president, with second vice-presidency going to Kevin Freedman. Medals were presented to the swimmers by Hugh MacKenzie, James Lake and Mark Hennessey. Short distance champions: 8/under, Peter Jarman and Katie Stephens; 10/under, Tom Grennan-Cruise and Natalie Greep; 12/under, Joshua Stephens/Tom Waddington and Laura Aspen; 14/under, Jake Broome and Laura Radgick; 16/under, Chris Ralph and Amy Warnett; 17/over. Stephen Osborne and Jan Langton. Long distance champions: 10-14 years, Jake Broome and Laura Radgick; 15/over, Richard Freedman and Amy Warnett. Open champions: Laura Radgick and Chris Ralph. Head coach Paul Chinn reported a successful year with huge improvements in swimmers? times. He thanked the committee for their support, his assistant coaches Rachel Warnett, Wendy Stephens and both James Lake and Mark Hennessey for help with coaching. Thanks also went to Rachael Kelly and Michael Best who stepped in to help with the younger swimmers recently. The Coach?s trophies were awarded as follows: best swimmer, James Lake; most improved swimmer, Jake Broome; most worthy swimmer, Laura Radgick; best squad swimmer, Kirsty Best; open water swimmer, Chris Ralph; best swimmer in training, Michael Best; best club swimmer, Stephen Osborne; best junior girl, Laura Aspen; best junior boy, Joshua Stephens. The trophy for the best relay team went to the Boys 15/under team. Voted by the club members as the swimmers? swimmer were Amy Warnett and Chris Ralph. Sam Gardner and Chris Ralph were appointed as club captains with Amy Warnett and Michael Best as vice-captains. Retiring club captains Richard Freedman and Alison Kelly were not able to be present to receive their plaques for their time as captains.
