'DIDN'Tthey do well!' was certainly an apt phrase for the boys 11/U (Matthew Adams, Kris Chapman, Cameron McGurk, Kieran Rookes) and ladies' open (Kirsty Best, Lea Cantow, Laura Radgick, Catriona Smith) teams of Tavistock Swimming Club when they won all their individual and relay races at the Cornwall and West Devon League's third and final competition at Penzance Leisure Centre at the end of June against Penzance and Devonport Royal. Some of the younger swimmers also had to swim in a higher age band due to absences at school camps and the Devon Youth Games, but certainly showed they were up to the challenge. The remainder of the 16 first places achieved went to Holly Gibbs in the girls 11/U 50m freestyle, Harriet Edwards in the girls' 11/U 50m breaststroke, Josh Stephens in the boys' 15/U backstroke and the girls 15/U medley relay team (Holly Brimble, Natalie Greep, Alexandra Stoecker, Ella Waddington). Swimming for the club for the first time were Holly Gibbs and Sophie Anderson and for the final time was Lea Cantow, a German student studying at Tavistock College who has been with the club for the past year. 'Swimmer of the Gala' was awarded jointly to Cameron McGurk and Holly Gibbs for excellent personal swims. Taking part — with number of personal best times achieved in brackets — were Alexandra Stoecker (2), Ella Waddington (2), Matthew Adams (1), Michael Best (1), Holly Brimble (1), Kameron Brimble (1), Jason Butler (1), Harriet Edwards (1), Lily Edwards, Matthew Edwards, Holly Gibbs (1), Cameron McGurk (1), Nathaniel Rookes (1), Catriona Smith (1), Tom Waddington (1), Sophie Anderson, Kirsty Best, Lea Cantow, Kris Chapman, Tom Crocker, Natalie Greep, Laura Radgick, Kieran Rookes, Josh Stephens, Elizabeth Teague and Ross Williams. Tavistock finished in third place, only nine points behind the leaders, and their final position in the league was eleventh.
