TEENAGE swimming sensation Jan Langton, of Yelverton, celebrated success in Nottingham this weekend by smashing a world record in one of her events.

Jan, aged 13, was competing in the Cerebral Palsy Sport National Swimming Gala when she entered the record books.

Her mother Helen Langton said: 'She broke the world record in her class in the 50 metres butterfly which won her the gold medal — she's absolutely over the moon.'

Jan, a student at Tavistock College, also achieved four personal best times in her other events at the gala — an open event to adults from all over the country.

Her next important challenge is in June when she competes in a European championships event. But this weekend it's back to training with the England parolympic squad.
