SEVEN members of Tavistock?s Zest Youth Triathlon (pictured below) travelled up to Queen?s College, Taunton, on Sunday to take part in the Taunton Junior Aquathlon. This event consists of a swim, immediately followed by transition where competitors put on their trainers as quickly as possible then a run. Jordan Channon, 9, was first to compete in the 9/10 years category-Tristar 1. There were 13 boys and although Jordan started last he had an excellent swim overtaking the other three boys who had started ahead of him to come out of the pool in second place. With a quick transition he ran down the leader and continued to run the 1500 metres to come in first place. Next to go in the boys? 11/12 age group, Tristar 2, were Reece Worth,Sam O?Boyle and Will Carter. Reece dominated the 14-length swim and came out in first place, followed closely by Will. Sam was eighth out of transition and held onto this place for the 2km run to finish in this position. Reece capitalised on his fantastic swim and led all the way to come first with Will, who gained on Reece during the run coming in second. Zest?s next competitor was Rebecca Windemer in the 13/14 Tristar 3 girls? event. She came second after a 20-length swim followed by a 3km run. In the youth category it was the turn of Laura Aspen and Tom Worth. Tom, who had not competed for over one year, proved he still had it in him by being by the first boy out of the pool after swimming 25 lengths but was overtaken by two boys on the 4km run to come third. Laura who recently represented the South West for triathlon in the inter regional championships held in Glasgow finished first out of the girls. Zest came away from Taunton with three first places, two second places and a third, showing that all the training they had done throughout the year had paid off.
