IN the aftermath of the disastrous earthquake in Bam, Iran, Rapid UK would like to pass on their heartfelt appreciation to the Wren Trust in Okehampton.
Due to their generous co-operation we were able to borrow, at very short notice, their Mercedes van to go to Stansted Airport and bring back to our Gloucester HQ all the rescue equipment that the team had taken with them.
On many occasions it is only with help like this that rescue team Rapid UK are able to transport teams and vital equipment to and from airports.
Due to the large number of members that went on the mission, 20 personnel and two dogs, that left a limited number of available bodies back in the UK. These had to man the operations room on a rota basis for 24 hours a day and on the team?s return provide drivers and transport to collect them and the equipment at 01.00am on Wednesday morning.
The dogs were taken away to quarantine kennels and the team back to our HQ in Gloucester.
Once again on behalf of Rapid UK and ourselves, many, many thanks to Paul and the Wren Trust.
Billy and Christine McPhie
