THE former manager of Tavistock's Bedford Hotel, Simon Rowe, helped to tackle an alleged robber to the ground as he ran through his back garden last week. Simon and his child's after-school tutor, Matt Bower, who was teaching a small group of children in Simon's Crownhill home at the time, ran into the garden and took on the alleged bag-snatcher, after they heard a shout from the next door neighbour's house and saw him darting across Simon's garden. The men said they wrestled the intruder to the ground as he tried to climb over the fence and pinned him down for around 10 minutes until the police arrived. A neighbour was able to recover a bag and it was returned to its owner. It was said that the police congratulated Simon and Matt for their bravery.
