Duchy Premier Gunnislake 3 St Mawgan 2 WITH this win Gunnislake jumped above their opponents in the table. This result also ensured Gunnislake's winning sequence in 2008 continued and avenged the defeat they suffered at St Mawgan on the last day of 2007. The home side started brightly and duly took an early lead. A long thrown in from Stef Kelly was not dealt with by the Saints' defence and Gunnislake midfielder George Leighton made it two goals in as many games as he fired into the top corner from 16 yards. Gunnislake continued to carry the greater threat although Saints were also showing as an attacking force. Midway through the half the visitors took advantage of Gunnislake being temporarily down to 10 men when central defender Nathan May was off the field to equalise. Midfielder Chris Williams made a good run to get away from his marker and score at the far post. The hosts remained the better side and deservedly regained the lead before half-time. Having been brought down in the area Kelly converted from the penalty spot. Gunnislake twice struck the woodwork either side of a second half own goal before Saints set up a nervy final 15 minutes thanks to a second goal from Chris Williams. l Gunnislake's premier division side are without a fixture this Saturday. Gunnislake reserves, having had their away match against Garrison cancelled last Saturday are fixtured to be at St Newlyn East this weekend for a Duchy four fixture that kicks off at 2.30pm.
