PARKLANDS Leisure Centre in Okehampton and Meadowlands in Tavistock are showing their support for No Smoking Day by encouraging people to swap cigarettes for exercise.

Both centres will be offering a free health check and three day pass to help people give up smoking and exercise more regularly. The offer is to promote No Smoking Day, which took place yesterday (Wednesday).

Jon Smith, contract manager at West Devon, said: 'At Parklands Leisure Centre and Meadowlands Pool we are determined to help our local community achieve their best possible levels of health and fitness.

'Over the years, research has shown us the damage that smoking can do to our health and the benefits that can come as a result of exercising regularly.

'Through supporting No Smoking Day, we aim to encourage the local community to not only quit smoking, but begin regular exercise as part of their routine.'
