Devon Junior Cup

Tavistock RFC 11

Sidmouth RFC 10

TAVISTOCK received the kick off and attacked the Sidmouth defensive line. For the first ten minutes the Moorlanders were in the Sidmouth half battering their way towards the line with hard yards made by Greenhill, Beuzeval and Cole in the back row.

An infringement from Sidmouth allowed Tavistock's young fly half Josh Sutton to slot over a penalty and pull into the lead. Sidmouth, down the hill, set about battering the Tavistock defence, raining balls down on full back Lyddon who was outstanding. But Tavistock's wall of defenders was up to the challenge with great defensive hits from Dunston, Evans and Mason.

Sidmouth levelled the score from a penalty.

Tavistock set about pinning Sidmouth in their own half and waited to strike. The lineout was put to full use with Hunt and Jeffery dominating. A cleaver catch from Hunt and driving maul from Jeffery allowed the Moorlanders to drive over the Sidmouth line. Hunt appearing at the bottom with the ball. Unfortunately Sutton missed the kick.

Sidmouth replied almost immediately with some great open running and a few lapses in the Moorlanders' concentration allowed them to score. They converted and put themselves in the lead.

Tavistock kicked off and once more contested their own kick well with Beuzeval coming up with the ball. Tavistock were determined not to let the game slip away. They battered the Sidmouth line with sniping runs from Buttle and Ninnis. But Sidmouth were not giving up the lead without a fight.

Tavistock brought Chappel and Cole on the park with 20 minutes to go.

The crowd at Sandy Park could sense the tension in the air and after a prolonged attack from the Moorlanders about ten minutes from time a penalty was awarded giving young Sutton a chance to put Tavistock's nose back in front. He converted and all Tavistock had to do was grind Sidmouth down and hold the lead.

Tavistock made a replacement at scrum-half with Staniland coming on. The last minutes of the game were tense with Sidmouth throwing everything they had at the Moorlanders — but they proved too strong.
