A BURGLARY victim called police to his home at Broadwoodwidger — only for them to find 15 cannabis plants stashed in a bag. James Peebles, 25, called 999 after his home was burgled by masked men, North Devon Magistrates' Court heard last Friday. But when scenes of crime officers turned up to inspect the house they smelt cannabis and found a bag containing the strong 'skunk' form of the Class B drug inside a bag. There were 15 plants and growing equipment, the court heard. Mr Peebles was sentenced to three months in prison, suspended for one year. He was also ordered to pay £85 in costs and £80 in victim surcharge after pleading guilty to producing cannabis and possession of the drug. Karen Ball, for the prosecution, told the court that the incident happened on June 24. Rod Ball, for the defence, said Peebles had a difficult childhood and had used cannabis as a way of blotting out bad memories since he was around 14.
