Essanians 3
THE game opened with Tavistock ladies? hockey team defending heavily, Laura Stapleton, Fiona Dunn and Susannah Boulle working hard to clear any major strike.
From a short corner Essanians scored their first goal.
Tavistock?s goalkeeper Jemma Hunt made some good saves which kept the team alive.
Emma White worked well with Jo Gaspar and freed the ball up to allow Steph Mills to hit some good balls into the D. Gill Court made some excellent interceptions and fed the ball up to Judy Miller. She worked well with Laura Armstrong who took the ball into the D but could not find a way past the opposition.
Through a strike at goal and a rebound off one of Tavistock?s midfield players Essanians took the score to 2-0.
At half-time captain Fiona Dunn gave a truthful and blunt team talk. The team needed to take back ownership of the game and play hockey to a standard of which they are worthy.
Tavistock opened the second half with good passing from Stapleton, Mills and Gaspar. The team grew more dominant, Sandra Collar was quick to pick up loose players in the D and made some good interceptions. Essanians scored during one of the few times they entered the D in the second half.
The ball was again worked up by Tavistock with White, Dunn and Gaspar making good linking patterns. Boulle and Stapleton kept driving hard up the pitch and a strong ball hit in by Stapleton, struck at goal by Gaspar then Lisa Butler managed to get a touch on it as it crossed the line.
Player of match: Susannah Boulle.
