DARTMOOR-based artist Serena Searight presents her ?Surroundings? exhibition at The Wharf Gallery in Tavistock this month. Serena grew up in the North East, the daughter of Robin Furness, a hill farmer and landscape artist in County Durham. Heavily influenced by her father?s work and meeting with internationally recognized artist Norman Cornish as young child, she completed a design degree at Leeds and has exhibited in London, Scotland and Yorkshire. Serena?s subject matter is a series of snap shots of what is going on around her. She says the weather and atmosphere of the moors are as varied as the people who live there. Serena often paints on Dartmoor, working directly from her subjects. She is also a well known figure at Exeter Livestock Market, sketchbook in hand. The exhibition runs from November 5 to 23.
