Whitchurch Colts v Ashtead Colts

IN A recent mixed age colts match, touring side Ashtead (Surrey), ran out winners by 1 wicket.

Whitchurch batted first and posted 197 for 7 in their 40-over allocation.

Notable contributions came from Richard Hall (50 retired) and Tom Gruitt (50 retired) with fine support from guest player Andy Smith (18), James Kaminski (17) including two consecutive sixes, and Julian Faulkner (19 no).

In reply, Ashtead made 198 for 9, the runs evenly spread between more of their players.

Smith was pick of the bowling with 1-20 from his 8 over allocation, with terrific support from James Kaminski (3-31), Tom Jackson (1-26) and Richard Rouse (1-24).

Had the away side not been allowed to get off to such a fast start (68 off 10) Whitchurch would surely have taken victory.
