A TEAM of walkers from the Wharf in Tavistock staged a 40-mile hike across Dartmoor recently, to celebrate a grant allowing the venue to purchase a state-of-the-art sound system.

Director Peter Hurdwell, Wharf volunteer Sue Forbes, and projectionist Mark-Russell-Wilson set off from Exeter on the morning, of April 5 and arrived back in Tavistock the following afternoon.

The three hikers were met at Mount House School by West Devon Mayor Robin Pike, Gerry Woodcock, representing the Mayor of Tavistock and a group of Wharf supporters.

They joined the hikers for the final mile of the walk through Tavistock to the Wharf.

The £23,000 grant from the Regional Arts Lottery Programme bought a new PA system for the Wharf.

The new sound system has been installed and used to produce a vastly superior sound for two recent gigs by tribute bands The Bohemians and The Rollin' Clones.
