THE mayor of Tavistock last week paid tribute to the tremendous efforts of pannier market traders and staff, following the charter celebration tea dance for senior citizens, held in the market last month. Cllr Jenny Metcalf said the event, in commemoration of 900 years of charter market history in the town, included music from members of Tavistock Musical Theatre Company and a slap-up tea, and was ?very successful? . ?It was superb,? she said. ?The market traders provided most of the food ? it was a very special afternoon. ?There is another party going on at the end of October for children ? I think it?s a lovely idea, particularly with reference to the charter celebrations.? Cllr Brian Trew said: ?The traders certainly went beyond the scope of making a living ? they were really putting back something into the town.? The party for children is planned for Sunday October 31 and will have a Hallowe?en theme.
