Sanford seconds vTavistock seconds

TAVISTOCK travelled to Sanford hoping to get the season going after last week's narrow defeat. The visitors put the home side into bat and the first couple of overs went well until opener Morish took a liking to the length Gliddon was bowling and dispatched him numerous times to the extra cover boundary.

This gave Sanford a good start with Wayne Downham bowling a tight spell from the other end but Sanford were going along at five an over. Captain McGahey changed the bowling this brought instant success as Willetts took three wickets in three overs to start the fight back.

Tavistock were now on top but this was an excellent batting track and after Murch and Ashplant had established a good base the later batsmen had free reign to throw the bat.

The Tavistock bowling was found wanting again with too many four balls being bowled and Sanford pilled on the runs ending on 261-8. Even on a good wicket this was a big ask, Dave Downham returning to the side scored a good looking 18, Goodchild made 9 and Witcher lasted four balls before he drove a ball straight to extra cover. At 45-3 it was left to the class of Phil Stephens and the grit of captain McGahey; the put on a splendid 87 run partnership, only broken when McGahey was done in the flight by spinner Clement for 23.

Gliddon soon followed giving the bowler catching practice and any sign of victory was gone, when Stephens was finally out caught behind for a magnificent 91 Tavistock shut up shop  and collected a hard fought draw 10 points
