BERE Alston?s Carnival Week started last Saturday with a colourful procession around the village. The ?musicals? theme of the carnival was a popular choice and The Edgecumbe Hotel with the ?Rocky Horror Picture Show? was chosen as the overall winner from a large amount of entries. A fun day was held on Bank Holiday Monday which included plenty of side stalls, a performance by the Tamar Valley Westerners, a demonstration by Devon Fire and Rescue and a falconry display, plus a dog show and rabbit show. Charities such as the Labrador Trust and Trevor Paddon-Hall?s African Orphanages project benefited during the day and a car boot sale proved a magnet for bargain hunters. And still to come are the family bingo on Friday in the parish hall and a cabaret music hall on Saturday evening at the same venue. This year?s cabaret will be a special tribute to Colin Anderson and Julie Finnamore, staunch supporters of the event, who both sadly died during the past 12 months.
