DESPITE a less than favourable weather forecast, 16 Tidy Tavi volunteers ventured out last Saturday in their latest effort to keep Tavistock's streets clear of litter.

The teams met up outside The Wharf during a brief shower but the group's long run of fortune returned as the clouds cleared and sun came out to brighten up the day.

The centre of town received attention as well as the bus station, the Pixon Lane area and the whole of Plymouth Road.

The group collected a significant haul of cans, bottles, plastic bags, sweet wrappers and other detritus, much of which had blown out from nooks and crannies during the recent storms.

A spokesman for Tidy Tavi said: 'Unfortunately, insufficient volunteers have been available recently to visit some of the outlying areas previously covered.

'It is hoped however, that residents may take a lead from Tidy Tavi and spare a few moments to pick up and dispose of items of litter around their own homes and businesses.

'It's much more gratifying setting out as a group though, so come and join in.

'Anyone wishing to help out next month is most welcome to meet up outside The Wharf at 9.50am on Saturday, December 7. Hopefully the sun will shine again ensuring a good turnout of eager volunteers!'
