LEWDOWN village fayre illustrated community spirit as more than 20 local organisations took part. The fayre was held on Sunday at the Recreation Ground, with the rain holding off until the event was over. It was opened by Mayor of West Devon Cllr Denis Bater and his consort Caroline Langley. Parish Cllr Colin Harris took the mayor and deputy mayor on a tour of the local organisations? stalls and introduced the volunteers. They included Lewtrenchard Pre School Group, Red Spider Drama Group, Lewdown Residents? Association, the school, WI, youth club, history group, the Over 55s Club, the Pins and Needles Group and crime prevention. The afternoon included entertainment by the Pack Horse Singers, together with a fancy dress competition, children?s races and face painting. There were classic cars and tractors on display and home produce, plants and bric-a-brac were available to buy. Launceston Camera Club provided an exhibition, as did the Lewdown Past group. There were also crime prevention and quilting and knitting displays. The event was so successful it is hoped it will become an annual event. The fayre committee thanked everyone for their efforts to make it a great success.
