OKEHAMPTON and District Tennis Club begins its summer season on April 9 after a thriving and enjoyable winter of social tennis and welcomes any new members.
Club playing times for seniors take place on Tuesdays from 6pm to dusk and Saturdays 5pm to dusk. Supervised junior sessions for the over 11s begin on Saturday April 13 from 2pm to 5pm.
After a successful ten weeks of coaching sessions for the under 11s on Saturday mornings, there is an Easter break with sessions resuming on the Simmons Park courts on April 20 at 10am.
On the competitive front, the club has taken part in the East Devon Mixed Winter League and is a main contender for promotion in its division.
The final winter league match was played in deteriorating conditions last Sunday. Teresa Sanderson, Graham Gale, Julia Moysey and Scott Rose battled against a strong Woodbury side to win 4-0.
The highlight was a spirited comeback by Teresa and Graham to win 7-5, 7-6 after being 5-1 down in the second set.
