DESPITE poor weather, the 50th annual Throwleigh Show on Saturday was a tremendous success, raising £1,102 for village hall maintenance funds.
The horticultural section took place in the hall with local gardeners producing some fine examples of the best in flowers and vegetables. Judges were pleased to see loaves of bread after last year's absence of entries.
Stalls and side shows kept everyone entertained in the paddock next to the Northmore Arms, kindly leant for the occasion by Mo Miles. In the village hall, Christine Duffy, Olive Bond and helpers served cream teas to appreciative visitors.
Before presenting the prizes, management committee chairman John Crowley thanked event co-ordinator Judy Moss, her helpers and stallholders for all their hard work — Mr Dunning Morris was also presented with a wooden bowl in thanks for his work over the years.
Cup winners in the horticultural section were: Fox-Pitt Trophy for vegetables, Christine Stanbury; Booth Trophy for flowers, shared by Christine Stanbury and Pippa Clarkson; Perpetual Rose Bowl for cakes and preserves, Penny Perkins; Croxford Trophy for Bread Baking by Dinty Allinson and Perpetual Junior Trophy, Daniel Curtis.
