Three Kelly College students have successfully completed a selection process for the Dorset Expeditionary Society, enabling them to go on an expedition to India. Olivia Foster, Luke Sutton and Harry Wyatt undertook many challenges, including a 12-mile night hike, shelter building exercises, a swimming test and a river crossing. The nature of the weekend was to simulate different circumstances the students could be faced with while on a month long expedition. The challenges were not only physical, but mental and social as well. One particular challenge was to eat a special breakfast which consisted of meringue, anchovies, meatballs, mushy peas and blue milk, all to be consumed within 10 minutes. Teacher at Kelly College and expeditionary leader Trudie Bratt said: ?The students were stunning. They responded really well to the challenges and maintained a sense of humour throughout. I look forward to this summer?s expedition.? Students will travel to India for a month this summer. The aim of the trip is to develop young leaders. The main activities will include rafting the headwaters of the Indus River, trekking across the Moonlands of the Tibetan Plateau, mountain biking several high altitude routes to the Chinese border and complete a crossing of the Greater Himalaya.
