STAGGERED — that was the reaction following a highly successful flag day held in Tavistock recently, which raised much needed cash for the Guide Dogs for the Blind organisation. Nikki Watson, organiser of the new Tavistock branch, said she was delighted at the response of the public to the event. 'We really can't get over it — I have to say the generosity of the people in the Tavistock area has just staggered me,' said Nikki. 'It was a lovely day and we are so grateful to everyone, also to the town's market reeve, who was so helpful.' The flag day raised £508.57 for branch funds. The Tavistock guide dogs' branch is just a year old and members would love to hear from anyone who would like to help the charity in any way. 'We'd love to have a few more members who could help the branch — and we would be particularly interested in anyone who would like to become a puppy walker,' said Nikki, who is currently waiting for her own new guide dog, following the retirement of her previous canine helper after ten years. Anyone interested in getting involved in Guide Dogs for the Blind locally should call Nikki Watson on 01822 852060.
