AS part of their ongoing commitment to community and schools cricket, Lewdown Cricket Club invited six local primary schools to their Recreation Field for a cricket Festival.
Teams from Lew Trenchard, Lifton, Lydford, Northlew, Bridestowe and Boasley arrived at 9.30am eager for competitive cricket. Each school squad consisted of 10 players, with eight players playing in matches. As a minimum, two girls played in each match.
Lewdown CC have been actively coaching in four of the primary schools for the past couple of months as well as providing club coaching on Friday evenings. Of the 60 plus children at the tournament, a high percentage were Lewdown CC members.
Rivalry was fierce, but fair play was evident. All the matches were played in excellent spirit, with each school playing each other. Three schools won two matches, Lew Trenchard four but Bridestowe were unbeaten, winning all five. The winning Bridestowe captain received a perpetual trophy and the winning players all received medals. The players from the other teams all received Lewdown CC caps.
Brenden Worth, Lewdown CC's club development officer, said: 'The day was an outstanding success and the Schools and Lewdown CC have agreed to make the Schools Festival an annual event.
'Thanks go to Lewdown CC members who umpired, scored and provided refreshments; and to school staff for keeping 60 children under control!'
