South Devon Football Leagie Premier division
Chagford 2
Totnes and Dartington SC Reserves 1
CHAGFORD won a valuable three points, largely thanks to fine and co-ordinated team effort against a strong and disciplined side.
Though the Scarry brothers won deserved praise at the end (one scoring a late winner, the other saving superbly just after) the accolades went to the team working together for the whole match.
The opening exchanges belonged to the visitors but just as Chagford thought they were coming back Totnes and Dartington took a tenth minute lead as Mike Bishop hooked in a well placed corner.
Far from lowering their heads, Chagford picked up their game and took control. They appeared to suffer another blow on 28 minutes when Williams pulled up with a hamstring strain. Christian Crowther-Smith came on to the left to gave Chagford a wider dimension and Totnes found themselves stretched.
The hosts' best chances came and went, Forsey edging the ball over the bar and Crowther-Smith narrowly missing a near post header.
At the other end, Totnes and Dartington's forwards were well contained by Brown and Johnston, though Scarry had to pull off a couple of smart saves.
A more confident set of Chagford players came out for the second half and their early pressure was duly rewarded in the 62 minute. An unmarked Dan Johnston rose to meet Chadwick's fine corner and firmly guided his header down and in.
Minutes earlier, Scarry had kept his team in the hunt by pushing a well struck shot away to his left.
With about ten minutes remaining and a draw looking likely, Jon Scarry came on for the hard working Emanuel. The young striker settled in quickly, seeing one shot saved; then, three minutes from time he was sent through at the edge of the box and thumped the ball low and hard past a motionless Totnes and Dartington 'keeper.
The visitors' player-manager Darren Fisher was gifted a golden chance just seconds later but Saul Scarry somehow got across his goal and down to turn the ball round the post.
• Chagford entertain Upton Athletic this week. The Reserves travel to Denbury Athletic Reserves. Both kick-off at 2.30pm.
