Okehampton Columbines 0
Sturminster Newton 5
THESE two hockey teams always have a good game when they meet, and Saturday was no exception.
The story for Columbines was lapses of concentration at one end and missed opportunities at the other. This was not an easy match for Sturminster as Columbines put them under pressure for large parts of the game.
Sue Stanbury and Jane Jones were effective in midfield and set up the Columbines attack but Okehampton just could not score.
Vicky Taylor's reverse stick shot missed the goal by inches, and a skilful move ended with Beth Stephens clipping the post.
A number of crosses had the Sturminster defence in disarray, but Okehampton just could not turn them into goals.
Jo Moppett had a fine game and chased the ball tirelessly to win Okehampton possession.
But Sturminster were quick to counter-attack and Debbie Hutchings in goal had to make a number of saves. But she stood no chance with the Sturminster goals which were scored from close range.
Sturminster are near the top of the league and though a good side the scoreline did not reflect the closeness of the game.
This week Okehampton are away to Swanage.
