THE midweek stableford at Tavistock Golf Club has always been a popular event, and last week was no exception. The only difference was a stunning round from James Ruth.
Amassing 45 points to some extent masks the quality of the performance of a round 11 under par before giving two shots back.

Division 2: 1, J L Coe 37 points; 2, M Samborne 37; 3, P Turner 36.
Division 3: 2, S Brockington 40 points; 2, S Webster 37; 3, D Murphy 36.
The finals of the Palairet memorial Trophy were held at the club, where unfancied Sidmouth thrashed Exeter 5-0 in the semi-final, then survived a nervous last green to edge home against Great Torrington by 3-2.
The club championship has reached the semi-final stages, and it brings together the big guns: James Ruth v Willie Reed; Graham Ruth v Alan Gawman .
David Anthony stayed ahead of the field to win the Veteran Bill Bryant Trophy by one shot.
Back to James Ruth whose purple patch saw him win the South West Boys? title at Yelverton with two awesome rounds of 66 and 64. Being a Daily Telegraph qualifier his reward is a trip to Sun City, South Africa.
