Hatherleigh 0

Buckland 4

CHAMPIONS-elect Buckland won comfortably, but until half-time the game was evenly poised.

The visitors started brightly enough but rarely threatened the home goal and were restricted to long range efforts.

Hatherleigh battled well and produced a couple of good openings and their determination seemed to be starting to pay off.

Buckland lost their rhythm, and frustration started to creep into their game.

In five minutes, however, following the interval, the visitors stunned Hatherleigh with three goals. The first followed a corner — the ball somehow managed to evade several home defenders and trickle over the line. The two goals that followed were worthy of winning any match. Diagonal balls were played on to the left and one to the right and finished with a volley into the top corner of the net and a lob, both from outside the penalty area.

Hatherleigh managed to hold the visitors at bay until late on when a long ball over the top found the Buckland centre forward ahead of the defence to slide it past the home keeper.

This week Hatherleigh are away to Pinhoe.
