Ordulph v Bridestowe

GOING into this match Ordulph knew that with top placed team Cornwood having a bye week they could go top of the league by beating Bridestowe with their game in hand.

Skipper Whitfield lost the toss and Bridestowe obligingly pointed Ordulph to a drying wicket to bat on. Accurate bowling from Jutson and Butler had Ordulph pinned down for 10 overs with only 17 runs finding their way onto the scoreboard.

The next ten overs fared little better for Ordulph with the Bridestowe bowlers seeming to have a stranglehold on the game with runs at a premium.

At this point with wickets in hand Ordulph started to throw caution to the wind and some runs started to flow in the form of Rotton (38), Wright (32) and a rapid 24 from Witcher.

With the scoreboard starting to take on some form of respectability, Bridestowe were still taking heart from the fact that wickets were falling regularly. The main Bridestowe bowler doing the damage was Russell, who turned in impressive figures with a 'jug earning' five for 45.

With the Ordulph tail chipping in with a few runs the innings petered out to 159 for 9, a job well done by Bridestowe in the field.

After tea Ordulph set about redressing the balance with the opening attack of Langton and Wright. It was one of the best opening attack performances seen in an Ordulph shirt for many a year.

Wright set about bowling with pinpoint accuracy 10 overs for 14 runs, with Langton scything through the Bridestowe order from the other end with an imperious display of seam bowling. Seaming the ball back from outside the off-stump Langton was clattering stumps quicker than the Bridestowe batsmen could pad up, wicket after wicket from unplayable balls.

Langton finished up with an incredible career best of 7 for 31 off 10, a couple of superb catches from Whitfield and Witcher assisting.

With Lethbridge and Witcher taking the last two wickets it was 'job done' after 26 overs with Bridestowe not knowing what hit them, all out for 56, top of the league position secured.

This week Ordulph have a bye week with no game.
