AN exhibition of work by young artist blacksmiths was held at Callington Community College.

Year 9 students showcased their work following an introductory course in working with metal at Plymouth College of Art.

Students were invited to Saturday workshops during May by Plymouth College of Art resident artist and blacksmith, Richard Wood. He helped students try their hand at manipulating metals, producing some excellent pieces.

Callington teacher Ruth Proudfoot-Smith, said: 'The workshops taught them forged metalwork skills; designing and manipulating metals to create sculptures.

'Their ideas linked to the "Distortion" coursework unit at school and work included peacock "leaves", walking trees, wasps, snails and bugs.

'Students enjoyed using the forges to blacksmith metal shapes as well as other machinery like the plasma cutters.'

Students involved were: Pearce Edwards, Jonathan Hemmens, Ming Dawe, Jenna Buxton, Ben Lane, Matthew Steadman, Will Trewartha-Jones, Darren Pengelly, Jack French, Andrew Bellas, Chris Stewart, Josh Froud- Silverstone and Ryan Bartlett.
