STUDENTS from Tavistock College took up a challenge to create a product for a new town-based business.
The 40 Year 10 students were set a brief to design and manufacture a prototype of a new flat packable gift box for 'Cakes, Bakes and Shakes'.?The box was for one of the firm's intricate cupcakes.
Students got to work, pairing up and deciding how best to begin their research and designing.
They learned how models can be created using CAD/CAM when using a laser cutter at the college.
At the end of a productive day, they had the daunting challenge of presenting their concept to the owner of Cakes Bakes 'N' Shakes, Buster Brown, in a Dragon's Den-style pitch.
Buster said: 'It was a fantastic opportunity for our new business to become involved with the students of Tavistock College.
'The students were an asset to the college, producing outstanding designs and showing real interest and dedication in the task. I look forward to working with the college again in the future.'
The college will be involving students in more opportunities for 'employment engagement' with other local businesses in the near future.
