A GROUP of Tavistock College students have become qualified first aiders while taking part in a unique practical course.
Year 10 students Demi Conley, Jack Cunningham, Ben Liversidge, Yasmin Langman and Ryan Baker studied emergency first aid during their ASDAN Wider Key Skills lessons, gaining a certificate which is valid for three years.
Tavistock College ASDAN coordinator John Collacott said: 'I'm most grateful for the support of Anne Hine who taught the students first aid as part of the ASDAN course.
'In Year 10 they're following the Wider Key Skills programme which involves six projects and the first aid course is one of them.
'It is the first of two years and is equivalent to GCSEs.'
Mr Collacott said the first aid course was particularly useful as the qualification would give the students a good foundation to take part in the Jubilee Challenge as part of Ten Tors next May.
