FOR many of the Okehampton College students who got their A-level results last week, it was time to celebrate as their grades secured places on their chosen university or college courses.
It was a tale of academic success for the college with another crop of excellent A-level results.
College principal Chris Powell said: ?There are lots of happy youngsters today. There are always one or two feeling disappointed, but overall it looks to be a good set of results, broadly comparable to last year.?
Mr Powell said he was pleased to be able to report that grades in maths had been very good and also in drama and art.
?The results the students have achieved reflect the hard work and effort they have had to put in,? he said.
One student who was delighted to have got the grades she needed was Micky Burdus, of Okehampton. Her two As and one B in maths, media studies and psychology got her a place at Cardiff University, studying maths.
?It is absolutely amazing. It has been a very exciting day,? she said.
For Catherine Pratt, of Okehampton, the day was also a happy one as she attained good grades in psychology, communications and English literature. She is planning to take a gap year travelling before going to Durham University next September to study anthropology.
l At Shebbear College there was an overall A-level pass rate of 96%, with 54% of these at A and B grades.
Headmaster Bob Barnes was pleased that pupils had been rewarded for their hard work and commitment, in particular, Kirsty Tidball, of Hatherleigh, who has been accepted to study veterinary medicine at the Royal Veterinary College, London.
