STUDENTS at Tavistock College have been supporting the national Fairtrade Fortnight, as they took part in a number of organised events at the school. The campaign has been led by Tabby Gould and Lizzie Bentley of Year 11, supported by the college senate. They made presentations during assemblies for all year groups, explaining the principles behind the Fairtrade movement, ran a Fairtrade stall where students could sample and buy goods, held a raffle for a Fairtrade goodie bag and held staff coffee and cake mornings to encourage staff to buy Fairtrade. The canteen has also started to sell Fairtrade chocolate, drinks and flapjacks made with Fairtrade products. Within tutorials, students had the opportunity to play games that promote the idea of Fairtrade and took part in citizenship lessons exploring the issues behind the movement. A school spokesman said: ?The whole idea is to encourage the college community to make Fairtrade their habit and therefore help make poverty history.?
