Newton Abbot Vets 5
Tavistock Vets 2
TWO goals but Steve Webb failed to gain any reward for the Vets when travelling to Newton Abbot on Sunday.
After early Newton pressure the Vets took the lead with a neat inter-passing move involving Rob Staniland, Alan Smallacombe and Steve Webb. The latter, rounding the keeper to give them an early lead.
Newton equalised when Steve Bluett was adjudged to have fouled when defending a free kick. This spurred the home side on and only desperate defending, good goalkeeping and a little luck kept Newton at bay for the remainder of the first half.
An early second half goal, courtesy of Webb seemed to rock Newton back giving the Vets a short spell of pressure. However, the home side gradually came back into the game and were rewarded with two good goals in quick succession, leaving the Vets staring down the barrel of a loaded gun. Newton's younger and fitter side took full control of the game adding two more before the end.
The Vets struggled hard to stem the tide but were outplayed in the last quarter, when only Andy Fitzsimmons allied with some luck kept the score from becoming an embarrassment.
