Whitchurch v Ashburton

ON a sunny Saturday Whitchurch hosted fellow strugglers Ashburton. After winning the toss skipper Chappell invited Ashburton to bat first.

Progress was slow due to tight bowling. The breakthrough came thanks to an agile piece of wicket keeping by the skipper.

After this, the home team's bowling became wayward and every bad ball was punished.

The score was racing along thanks to P Pascoe (80) and C Pascoe (109) sharing a stand of 164 in 25 overs.

Fred Elliott's spell of spin bowling (2-36) was the only bowling effort worth noting. Ashburton finished on 260 for 6 from their 46 overs.

In reply, Whitchurch's opening partners found the going tough due to excellent bowling and fielding by the opposition.

The home team were soon a long way behind the run rate but this did not stop Gray (73no) and Chappell (68no). Whitchurch ended up 216 for 3.

Whitchurch took 10 points and Ashburton 12 points from the game.

This Saturday Whitchurch entertain high fliers Chagford.
