FOR this, their first competitive fixture of the new campaign, Gunnislake selected from a strong squad which included new summer signings Paul Trewithick, Matt Avery and Geoff Turner-Moore. Brothers Owen and Jason Locker were also in the squad after a three-year absence.
On a near perfect surface, well prepared by Gunnislake's hard-working committee, the home side started impressively and took the lead midway through the first half. Paul Tomkies got the goal, having been played in by Andy Southcott.
Despite there being a number of other chances either side of the goal being created by Gunnislake, half-time was reached with a 1-0 scoreline.
The second half saw both sides contrive to produce good, entertaining football. With defences also playing well, chances were few and far between. Just another solitary goal was scored and it came from debutant Matt Avery to secure a deserved victory.

STEVE Gaggini's header from a Joe Pulley corner was blocked only for Owen Locker to open the scoring after 15 minutes. Locker added a second when he got on the end of a Neil Kinger free-kick midway through the second half.
Gaggini played in Pulley, who finished well on 80 minutes.
A second victory and a second clean sheet despite the starting line-up showing five positional changes. The result being achieved by a good all round performance which saw keeper Andy Woodward only called upon to make one telling save.

GUNNISLAKE gave Chris Keeler, signed during the week, a place in the starting line-up and were duly rewarded as the striker struck twice in the opening half hour of this match.
Quick thinking from Andy Southcott saw his throw-in create Keeler's first well taken goal. After Matt Avery had won the ball and played in Joe Pulley, Pulley centred for Keeler to strike again with another good goal.
At this stage the scoreline slightly flattered the home side, the visitors having done the greater share of the attacking, albeit without cracking any clear scoring opportunities. Two further second half goals, together with a handful of missed chances, saw to it that by the first whistle Gunnislake fully deserved this victory.
On 60 minutes a good left side move saw a Pulley centre converted by Steve Gaggini. Gaggini completed the scoring a minute from time. The midfielder won the ball on the halfway line, played a neat one-two with Gary Underwood, before going through to score a fine individual goal.
Gunnislake once again at home this Saturday. Newly promoted St Stephens visit for a 2.30pm kick-off.
