THE ladies of Okehampton Golf Club continue to shine during this very busy time of the year. The members of the Ladies President's team record yet another victory at home against Sidmouth and the Sheila Creasy team achieved a win against Exeter, at home this time.
The league team beat Churston in the last of their matches completing a very successful season thanks to the leadership of their team captain Kay King. Now they wait eagerly for the other teams to complete their games to find out their final standing in their division.
This month's medal competition was played during our short heatwave, but produced scores that could melt the cards. The silver division was won by Penny Deakin carding a net 70, Maureen Huggins in second place also with 70 but losing on count-back and third going to Pamela Jarman with 71. The bronze division was won by Sally Griffin who recorded a net 67, a player very much on form this year, in second place was Lorna Evans with 68 and third Maureen Willcocks with 69.
The ladies have not neglected the social side of golf and 12 couples recently travelled to Oak Manor Golf club near Wellington for a friendly mixed match. Between a lot of laughter and a few showers an honourable draw was achieved and the day was completed with an excellent meal.
Charitable courses are also on the agenda at the club with members recently taking part in the mixed tournament in support of the Douglas Bader Foundation. A match played with a mix of weather, always in good spirit and very close scores.
The lady captain presided and wished the winners Lyn and Nick Atkinson every success in the next round to be played in August at Stover Golf Club.
