TAMAR and Tavy Gig Club took part in Looe Gig Regatta at the weekend and achieved some fantastic results with the juniors putting in a particularly brilliant performance to come in fourth.
With Jo coxing Amber Friendship, Megan Haynes-Parry, Miles Eastaugh, Charlie Fethney, David Miles and Vicky Fethney, the youngsters gave it their all.
Towards the end of the race with three boats neck and neck and the cox urging them on they found some extra strength and fought right to the end. The excellent result was well deserved.
Also achieving an incredible result of third was the ladies' C crew with new members Katie Turner, Emma Williams and Wendy Mclean in their first race with Trisha Stewart, Becky Masters and Mary Barnaby coxed brilliantly by Carolyn Dawe.
The ladies making their debut did well to put in such a fine performance on this long race and were well supported by their more experienced team mates.
On Sunday, August 8 at Weir Quay, Tamar and Tavy Gig Club will be holding its first ever regatta and everyone is welcome.
The first race will be at 2pm.
The Great Tamar Gig Race trophy race is a five mile handicapped pursuit race and looks like being hotly contested — come and support your local club.
Refreshments will be available including a BBQ and there will be an Ergo challenge (rowing machines) as well as less serious novelty gig races.
Tamar and Tavy always welcome new members of all ages and this is a great chance to see what the club gets up to.
