Devon 1 Torrington 1st XV 0 Okehampton 1st XV 36 OKEHAMPTON clashed with former table-toppers Torrington last weekend who needed to win to keep their promotion hopes afloat. Okehampton knew a win was essential knowing that their main rivals DHSOBs were meeting bottom of the league Ilfracombe. Okehampton started strongly with Andy Brimmacombe taking three points from a penalty early on. Okehampton were keen to keep Torrington pinned in their own 22, not allowing them to use the hill. Ali Mason managed to force a try over the line after Guy Young found some space with some strong running. Adam Curtis also exploited gaps in the Torrington back line, cutting through the defence and keeping Okes moving forward all day. It was not long before Adam found himself cruising underneath the Torrington posts for another try. Okehampton went into the break leading 17-0. Shortly after the interval Okehampton scored again with Harry Bushin breaking the line and touching down under the posts off a well worked lineout move. Another lineout saw Okehampton score again although this time it was hooker Bruce Griffths who jinked his way through the Torrington defence, scoring in the top corner. Andy Brimmacombe had been kicking well all day and increased his points tally when he found himself in space following a chip and chase through the heart of the Torrington defence, ending underneath the Torrington posts for another Okehampton score. Torrington forced the ball back into the Okehampton half and narrowly missed out on a late score due to the referee being unsighted after some good ground was made on a driving maul. Okehampton have gone from strength to strength this year, their hard work and determination to win is starting to pay dividends. Currently top of the Devon 1 standings they will look to maintain their run of good form into the new year when they clash with close rivals Cullompton at home on January 7. Okehampton face Launceston second team at home on Boxing Day in what should be a very entertaining game.
