Jewson South Western League
Tavistock 2
St Austell 2
WITH the League Cup final coming up on May Day Bank Holiday, managers Steve Hart and Gary Tiffany changed the side around, giving starts to youngsters Ben Pinkham and Craig Brook. Craig Hodge and Danny McTighe also began the game. It was the strongest squad the Lambs had turned out all season with five regular first team players on the bench.
The first 20 minutes was all Tavistock's as they penned the Lillywhites in their own half. From the first attack Peter Tiffney shot at the keeper from a McTighe cross.
Tiffney went close again on two occasions before he rattled a post from a Pinkham cross. Hodge then saw his header come back off the crossbar
St Austell came back into the game on the half-hour forcing four corners in quick succession but it was the Lambs who replied with the opener five minutes before the break.
The ball was played across the halfway line for Darren Babb to help it on to brother Jeff.He won a header and controlled it to go on and smack the ball in, giving Ayres no chance.
But right on half-time St Austell struck back. Andy Parnowski was caught at the back when Crow dispossessed him to cross for Drake who beat Andy Meeds from close range.
The second half started in dramatic fashion with Babb getting his second goal after just 20 seconds when he chipped the keeper from 20 yards.
St Austell again equalised on the hour. Crow was sent away with a through-ball to go around Meeds and slot home.
With 20 minutes remaining Hart and Tiffany made a triple substitution, Parnowski,Brook and Tiffney being replaced by James Cole, Chris Gott and John Gosling.
The Lambs had chances to take the lead for the third time but there was a lack of fire and control in their game with passes going astray and attacks coming to nothing.
With ten minutes to go Cole beat his marker on the by-line and was unlucky as his shot cum-cross was cleared off the line. Babb tried to get on the end of it and injured himself in the process.
Cole had the final say when he headed just wide from a Gosling cross - with it went the last chance of the game for the Lambs to record another victory. The Lambs have only been defeated once in 15 games and remain in seventh position.
