Carlsberg South West Peninsula league premier
Tavistock AFC 5
Launceston 2
THE Lambs were slow out of the blocks, so it was the visitors that got off to a good start in this local derby.
In the seventh minute Launceston took the lead when Sam Davey's deflected header fell into the path of Liam Tilley, who looked to be off side, stabbed the ball home from three yards.
Tavistock gradually got a foot hold in the game as the half progressed, and in the 36th minute scored a deserved equaliser when Lance Bailey set up Adam Carter who scored with a fine drive. The scores remained level at half time.
The second half saw the game increase in intensity and it was the visitors that went close early on, but the dependable Andy Meeds in the Tavistock goal was on hand to make a fine save. The Lambs then really got their game going, and took control in midfield. This resulted in more and more pressure on the visitors defence, and this forced them to concede several corners.
In the 65th minute Tavistock took the lead when Launceston defender Micky Rowles-Jane handled the ball in the penalty area. Will Stringer slotted the penalty kick home sending keeper Paul Hider the wrong way.
The hosts were now in full flow and ten minutes later Shane Krac scored with a fierce 18 yard shot after some good play from Blatchford that split the visitors defence open.
The Lambs effectively sealed the points when Lance Bailey scored after some fine pass and move that saw him net from 12 yards. These two goals were great examples of the fine football the West Devon team can produce when they are in the mood.
The visitors did manage to pull a goal back in the 79th minute when the usually reliable Will Stringer made a mistake which let Sam Davey in on goal; Andy Meeds made a superb stop, only to see the ball fall back in the path of the striker for him to slot home.
The Lambs rounded off a really fine second half performance when Mike Arscott crossed from the left flank for Will Stringer to head home from six yards.
This result keeps the Lambs in fourth place, and how they must now be rueing the poor performance last week, when they lost at Torpoint.
* This Saturday the Lambs have no match but Tavistock AFC Reserves are at home to Morewenstow, kick-off at 2.30pm.
On Tuesday, April 13 the Lambs visit Plymouth Parkway, kick-off 7.30pm.
