I AM not sure how many people this past week and coming week have had their businesses disrupted in the Market Street area! It has been absolute chaos, vans and lorries parked both sides of Market street, right up to the junction of Taylor Square all day long. All normal shoppers' parking spaces have been used, even the disabled parking bays. Vans and lorries that are trying to do normal deliveries cannot park so are having to park on the double yellow lines outside of my salon, half on the path and half in the road, otherwise it becomes impassable. One lorry reversed and bent my wrought iron sign so badly it needs replacing. There are even vans in the car park all day long, so parking for shoppers is virtually non existent. Yesterday a lorry parked in the entrance of the car park for more than three hours causing problems for people that were already in the car park who wanted to get out. There are pallet loads of stuff on the pathways causing people to walk in the road, and loads of contractors just standing around causing people to have to walk around them. I managed to speak to the manager of the Co-op store and he said that permission was given by the council for part closure of the road for the two weeks. I have checked all the roads that lead to King Street, Market Street, and Pym Street, and there is nothing to suggest any delays or trouble parking. Many of my clients who came for treatments had theirs cut short some by around 30 minutes due to the delays of trying to park in Market Street, or lack of! There was no notification from the council or the Co-op directly given to the shop keepers about how much disruption would be caused. These big companies should be fined for loss of business to our small businesses or we should be compensated somehow. Lorraine The Whole Shebang Hair and Beauty
