OKEHAMPTON?S Somerfield store revealed its new look this week following a £475,000 refurbishment.

Jean Brooks and Jim Wonnacott, who have both clocked up over 40 years service, were selected to cut the ribbon to mark the completion of the work yesterday (Wednesday.)

The refurbishment is part of a nationwide investment of £35 million by the Supermarket company to improve high street stores.

The Okehampton store has received a complete redecoration with extra lighting and fresh colours, giving it a bright and modern appearance and 1,000 new product lines have been introduced.

Manager Darren Bishop, who joined the store in July, said Okehampton was the only Somerfield store in the area to get this amount of money spent on it.

?It?s basically about improving customer service and satisfaction and we have responded to what our customers want,? he said. ?Okehampton has had more investment than any of the other 15 shops in the division and that includes Barnstaple, Ilfracombe, Launceston and Cullompton.

?One of our main complaints in Okehampton was about the cramped middle isle so we have made that larger. We are very pleased with our new look and I am confident that customers will be delighted with the improvements.?

Somerfield in Okehampton last received a revamp two years ago and is one of 200 out of the company?s 590 UK stores being improved during the next year.
