THE community really does matter to Waitrose supermarket in Okehampton . . .

Stuart Lord, from Okehampton Community Recreation Association, was recently presented with a cheque for £1,182 by Waitrose manager Damian Heard.

Waitrose's Partnervoice group, made up of employees voted on to the group by their colleagues, decided that the Okehampton branch would fundraise for OCRA this year.

They organised a sponsored cycle ride along the Camel Trail from Bodmin to Padstow and back, raising £834 in the process.

The remainder of the total was raised through tombolas at the May Fair and Donkey Derby, both held in Simmons Park.

All the goods for the tombolas were donated by Waitrose Okehampton and further funds were raised by selling strawberries and cream at the OCRA sports day.
