Tavistock & Newquay U18s Girls 19
Exeter U18s 10
THIS was a key match in the league and both teams started strongly.
It took Tavistock and Newquay just ten minutes however, to open the scoring through centre Alex Smith who sliced open the defence to score under the posts. Frankie Rickard duly added the two points. Tavistock and Newquay continued to play aggressively with some lovely back moves being strung together by fly half Fiona McCall and centres, Beth Neave and Alex Smith and a couple of big tackles, notably from flanker Lauren Chenoeth and hooker Charlie Notman.
Kerry Walke and Rachael Watson on the wings gave the home team width. Flankers Lauren and Erin Midson-Holmes played with aggression and it was player of the match Lauren who scored the second try for Tavistock and Newquay, as she side-stepped two members of the opposition.
Frankie was again on target as she slotted the conversion for another 2 points.
Exeter hit back at the end of the second half but were unable to add the conversion making the half time score 14-5.
After the break Exeter scored again bringing the score to 14-10.
Tavistock and Newquay remained calm and after hard work from the forwards, in particular, Rosie Tidball and Alice Upcott in the second row, scrum half Alice Stean, scored a try.
Props Jo Abel and Theresa Brown fought hard against the county props and Tavistock and Newquay held onto the win.
This victory sees Tavistock and Newquay unbeaten in the league.
