Plymouth A 1
Okehampton 4
OKEHAMPTON men's hockey club needed a win to stay in contention with the league leaders.
Okehampton were quickly into their stride and Tim Morgan started a move in midfield which produced an early goal.
Morgan and Simon Garland combined well passing on to Sean Glossop, who unselfishly laid the ball off for a simple tap in for a goal from Chris Luxton.
Okehampton kept the pressure on and consolidated their lead when Richard Jones added a second from a short corner.
From the restart Plymouth attacked down the left and a penetrating run caught Okehampton out. The accurate cross and shot beat Keith Dennis in goal.
In the second half Okehampton produced some good hockey. Keeping Steve Sage out wide on the wing gave him the space in the middle to move the ball around freely. Desperate defence from Plymouth kept Okehampton out, but eventually the persistence paid off and Phil Hampson rattled the post before scoring the third goal.
Plymouth came back, but John Long and Mark Clapham tackled hard to snuff out any real danger.
Keith Webber and Simon Bowne combined well on the right to set up Okehampton's fourth goal for Sage and round off a good result for Okehampton.
This week Okehampton play Bodmin at 1pm on the college all-weather pitch.
