STAFF at the Okehampton branch of the Cheltenham and Gloucester are raising money for charity by holding a ten-mile sponsored walk next month. The walk will raise funds for C & G?s chosen charity, Breast Cancer Care, the UK?s leading provider of breast cancer information and support. The Okehampton team are part of more than 200 staff in the Wales and West region participating in walks on the same day. Chris Hurley, Nigel Joy, Laura Norrish, Cathy Webb and Maria Clarke from the Okehampton branch will be undertaking the walk on the morning of Sunday, September 10. One of the walkers, Chris Hurley, said: ?I am really looking forward to supporting Breast Cancer Care by hosting the sponsored walk. ?It promises to be a fun event, which I hope will raise a lot of money for such a great cause.? Murray Lindo, director of fundraising and marketing at Breast Cancer Care, said: ?We are delighted that Okehampton is helping support the C & G and Breast Cancer Care charity of the year partnership reach its £1-million target. ? As well as being C & G?s chosen charity of the year, the charity will also benefit from C & G being part of the Lloyds TSB group. The bank?s Near to You, Here for You initiative, is a programme of local outreach work which will allow the charity to offer direct support to more people. The programme includes healthy living days, breast awareness events and one-to-one peer support services, where people newly diagnosed with breast cancer are put in touch with someone from the same area and of a similar background and age, who has been through breast cancer.
