LOCAL Nordic Walking instructor and personal fitness trainer, Elaine Sylvester is leading a two-day marathon walk on May 11 and 12 to celebrate International Nordic Walking Day and to help raise awareness of Osteoporosis, a condition which causes weakening of the bones.
Weight-bearing exercise such as Nordic walking has been linked to strengthening bones. Nordic walking improves fitness by using specially adapted poles to add resistance and combine upper and lower body strength akin to walking in four-wheel drive.
'Love Dartmoor's Walk a Marathon Challenge' is a 26-mile circular route and will start from Tavistock and follow part of the Dartmoor Way to finish at Brimpts Farm, Dartmeet, where there will an evening
meal, overnight accommodation and breakfast provided.
Spaces are restricted to ten and will need to be booked early.
A reasonable level of fitness will be required to complete the walk.
