THE first of six ?listening walks? will take place in Chagford next month, part of the Aune Head Arts Dartmoor Changes project which celebrates bell-ringing in the area.
The free walk will take place in and around the town, using lanes, footpaths and common land, with the bells of St Michael?s Church ringing throughout. The ringing session is being recorded for a special CD containing recordings of bells ringing from 31 towers on Dartmoor.
Before the walk, which takes place on Saturday December 20, there will be a short talk about the history of bell-ringing. After the hour-long walk, there will be a chance to visit the bell-ringing chamber at the church and chat to the bell-ringers.
As one of the intentions of the project is to recruit new bell-ringers on Dartmoor, there will also be an opportunity for walkers over the age of 12 to try their hand at bell-ringing.
The walk begins at 10.30am ? wear wellingtons and suitable clothing. For more information, call Aune Head Arts on 01822 890539 or e-mail
